Buh Buh Basketball

When did I become a college hoops fan?

ANYWAY

Check out Buh Buh Basketball, which is an updated version of the 1973 rock/psychabilly "fight song" for the Memphis Tigers when we last made it to the Final Four. It's kinda cute, definitely fun, and ... I still don't believe I am featuring it on my site. But there it is. :::chuckle:::

And To Sum Up...

Wow... I am finally starting to catch up on things in the academic world. I graded 75 papers this weekend, some of which were very interesting. (Note that I didn't say accurate... but they *were* interesting) But, even I must admit that some of them were *very very* good, and overall I enjoyed the experience, even though it put me behind in my own studies. Yikes.

I am (almost) caught up in my Gender and Politics class - one short review to write for that from last week when I was out. Then I will be caught up there.

Meeting with Dr. M each of the next three Fridays to catch up in Directed Readings, and I will be caught up there, too... thankfully. It's been an eternal game of catch-up in that class since the beginning of the semester.

GIS class is still a struggle - I may need to ask for an extension in that one since I have not been in class for a week and a half. I am keeping up with the material - I just haven't been in class, and that's a lot of face-to-face time to miss; I HATE missing class - ever - and this is making me crazy. We'll see. I plan to make arrangements to meet with the prof on Friday, if he is available.

Waiting for news on the grant - 15 days and counting. ::fingers crossed::

Had a SNAFU with the review I just completed for the publishing company - the bundle somehow got torn apart in the mail and part of it came back to me, part of it got to the publisher, and part of it is no place to be found. I am FedEx'ing the stuff that came back to me back to them tonight and will re-review the chapters that went missing if they decide they need that. I feel so bad about that! At least they received the e-mailed type-written review I did!

State Tennessee History Day is this Saturday, and the History Department Honors Gala is next Saturday, so I will be a busy girl the next two weekends. Then, it's another two weeks and the semester is OVER. Hard to believe.

Can't remember if I said anything about this summer, but I will be grading AP US History Exams in Louisville this summer for Educational Testing Services - looking forward to that, too! Busy, busy!

I think that catches everybody up with where things are with the PhD work - at least for now. Tonight is going to be a humdinger with all the reading and prepping for tomorrow's GIS class and Friday's meetings with Dr. M (and a hopeful one with Dr. T). Focus! Focus!

More later!

Swiped From Cute Overload

because I simply cannot believe my eyes.

Found a Terrific Article

About guess who!

WILLIE THE WONDER WART, the blight on our city.

Mayor Seeks Job Switch, But Response is Lukewarm It's in the New York Times, so you have to go through a short signup process to get to it. However, if you let me know you can't get it (and actually want to read it!! LOL), I will make sure you get a copy. A rather interesting synopsis. Huffy, huffy Hizzoner.

_______

I'm too tired to study anymore tonight - such a good book (about women's experiences running for public office in the last century, with an emphasis on the late part of the 20th), but I just read the last paragraph three times and it makes no sense at all to me at this point. It's almost three a.m., and Crash is getting me up at 6:45, so I had best be getting to bed... like... three hours ago. ::thud::

The appraiser may come tomorrow morning or Tuesday afternoon - waiting on an e-mail or call from the credit union about that, so I have to be up and ready for whenever he or she might possible get here. Oy. Not to mention finishing my homework and writing a paper about the reading. Before 11 a.m. tomorrow. Then I will only have four books to read between now and Friday, and about 20 more of those godforsaken term papers to grade by Wednesday morning. Yes, it's possible, but not fun when it comes in a clump like that.

Alright... I am headed to bed NOW. I can squeeze out nearly four hours of sleep if I am really, really lucky... and since I have already had to call 911 tonight for stupidity at my neighbor's house (the one who died in the tornadoes on Feb. 5 - the house is vacant and there were just a few too many college-age men running around her yard and around the house) so I'm a little edgy. May take a lortab to ease the ache in my belly so I can really sleep.

Nite All!

A Wee Bit of Bragging

Pouncer Memphis men's basketball is on to the Final Four. And since I know several of the guys on the team (a part of being a TA for courses which are an element of the gen ed requirements at our University), I am playing the part of proud den mama and cheering them on.

Note the cute and absolutely wonderful picture of our mascot, Pouncer, which can be found on Flickr - all rights reserved to the photographer. I know the guy who does Pouncer for the Lady Tigers, and he's just the neatest, most upbeat person... I love *all* our Pouncers. Who wouldn't want to hug the heck out of this cutie?

And I admit it. I have been watching the last several Memphis games... with the sound off; it's much more interesting to do our own commentary than listen to the dang paid folk.

As a side note, I don't like what NCAA athetics do to academics at institutions of higher learning... but I must shamefully admit that I am hooked on this tourney. Go figure.

So Go Tigers! RAWR!!! :-)
